Ely Medieval Pageant

Historical Promotions and Event Management working on behalf of East Cambridgeshire District Council organised a Medieval Pageant in the shadow of Ely Cathedral, as part of the cities events programme. For this unique event, an exciting and colourful Medieval programme was designed to capture the history of Ely’s past as a cultural and religious centre of activity in the Cambridgeshire Fens for the past thousand years.

The two-day Medieval Pageant comprised market and fayre with traders and artisans, foot tournaments, living history encampments, period displays, cameos, demonstrations and various Medieval themed based entertainment.

Throughout the weekend a programme of arena events consisted of period dancing, a full competitive Medieval tournament with knights and battle of ‘The Bishops Rebellion’. A large authentic Medieval encampment was erected and demonstrations on Medieval food preparation, cooking, diet and “Fast day observance” were undertaken. The programme also included skill-at-arms with various cameos, archery displays and demonstrations on arming and dressing a knight in period armour.

The event also featured period entertainment including juggling, story telling, a travelling puppeteer and a variety of children’s Medieval games.
